Cd Dvd Search

User Guide for the OptiDoc CD Scanner

The OptiDoc CD Scanner is a utility searching engine that can be placed along with OptiDoc data files onto portable media. When using CDs and DVDs the search engine can be "burned" onto the media. This tool allows a volume to be searched without the need for having an attached database system. This solution is only intended for low volume searching, since it must read every file on the volume to search for keywords and index data. The keyword and index information is typically stored into a special TIFF tag within the TIFF document in XML format. Searching can be made faster with the use of a ".qi" or quick index file.

An advantage to using an OptiDoc system is that keyword and index information is stored inside the visual document. This is a technique that is called "object" oriented, or data centered design. There are many benefits to using an imaging system that makes practical use of this design methodology. This searching utility is just one example.

For Example To Use An Enabled CD-Rom:

  • Place the CD to be viewed in the CD-Rom Drive.
  • The CD will auto-start and the Viewer will appear on the screen.
  • Click on the binocular button to do a search on the CD.
  • The Index fields illustrated are Date, Report Type and Cost Center
  • Once the search button is clicked, the search criteria window opens. Enter in the desired search criteria and click the start button. (In example below, the user is searching the CD for all Cost Centers that begin with the number 7)
  • Once the search is completed, the number of records found will be displayed.
  • If you want to search on more than one field, click on the highlighted check box below and choose the searching option from the drop down menu. In the example below, the user is searching for all documents with a check number that start with 7 AND the date equal to 06/04/2007.
  • When the search is complete, click the “Done” button. This will close the search window and display the retrieved data screen.
  • To view the desired document, double click on the pages icon next in the left hand column. This will bring up the image viewer with the document.
  • All of the pages of the document selected will be displayed. Repeat the process for any other documents to be viewed.
